The Ministry of Sports is developing a project to build an ice arena in Kyiv
The Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine is developing a project to build a modern ice arena on the grounds of the Ivan Piddubny Olympic Vocational College.
The new sports facility will become part of a separate structural unit of the National University of Physical Education and Sports of Ukraine.
Implementing this initiative will expand opportunities for training Ukrainian athletes.
Plans call for the future facility to utilize equipment and materials that were successfully evacuated from the south of the country during the hostilities. The next phase of work will involve the construction of a special frame-type arena.
According to experts, the preparatory processes and documentation approvals are in the final stages.
“Equipment salvaged from Kherson, which was previously purchased with state budget funds totaling 70 million hryvnias, has already been transferred for the future arena. It has been preserved, is in working condition, and can be used once the necessary infrastructure is in place. The next step should be the construction of the frame-type arena. The relevant project has already been developed and is currently undergoing expert review, which is scheduled to be completed by August 1 of this year,” the relevant ministry reported.
The opening of the new training complex in the capital will create the conditions for developing new disciplines within the institution. The college administration will be able to attract more young people to professional training on the ice.
Organizers expect a significant improvement in the results of Ukrainian students on the international stage.
“The launch of the ice arena will allow the college to open two new winter sports departments—short track and figure skating. This approach will make it possible to improve the training of winter sports athletes, taking into account, in particular, the lessons learned from this year’s Winter Olympics,” the ministry emphasized.
