A Russian drone struck a house in Kyiv—a pregnant woman was injured
A pregnant resident of the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv was just getting her child ready for school when a Russian drone struck a high-rise building. The woman and her child were cut by shards of glass, and after the explosion, the apartment quickly filled with smoke. The victim says she is currently in a state of shock and is undergoing medical examinations at the hospital.
She explained that she was at home with her child at the time of the attack. She was getting her child ready for school when she saw a burning piece of debris fly past the building. According to her, a loud explosion followed almost immediately afterward. The next thing she remembers is glass raining down on her and her child.
The apartment was filled with smoke after the impact. The woman says that due to the shock, she cannot clearly recall all the events of the first few minutes after the explosion. “She was getting her child ready for school when the strike happened,” a man named Maxim told Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
He came to the building because his pregnant godmother lives on the 12th floor. According to him, the drone struck one floor below. The woman was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Maxim noted that she and the children are all fine.
The victim received stitches on her fingers and back
The woman suffered cuts from shards of glass. Medical personnel stitched up her fingers and back. She also went to the hospital because of her pregnancy. She said she was in a state of shock and wanted to make sure that she and her unborn child were okay.
She has not been allowed to return home yet. After the impact, the building’s entrance was blocked, so the only way out was via the stairs. The woman says that what she remembers most clearly is the moment when the glass fell on her and her child. After that, the apartment was filled with smoke, and there was debris all around.
What the building’s residents are saying
Another resident of the building, Kateryna, said she woke up just a few seconds before the explosion. According to her, she heard Ukrainian air defenses in action before the strike. Residents of the building were trying to figure out exactly where the drone was and whether it could be shot down.
After the explosion, people began leaving their apartments and heading downstairs. Due to damage to the building and a blocked entrance, some residents had to use the stairs.
A Russian drone struck a building in the Darnytskyi district
On the morning of September 9, Russian troops attacked Kyiv with strike drones. One of the drones struck a 24-story residential building in the Darnytskyi district of the capital. The State Emergency Service reported that a fire broke out in the building following the strike. Rescuers extinguished the fire and rescued 23 people.
According to rescue workers, six people were injured as a result of the attack. In addition to the high-rise building, the effects of the Russian attack were also reported in other districts of Kyiv that night. In the Darnytskyi and Holosiivskyi districts, two trucks, a garage, and a two-story non-residential building caught fire. Rescuers have already extinguished all of these fires.
Kyiv has been under attack by Russia for several days in a row
The Russian attack on September 9 was the latest in a series following a massive strike on the capital on the night of September 8. On that occasion, the Russians launched ballistic and cruise missiles at Kyiv, and continued the attack during the day with strike drones. Reports from the capital indicated falling debris and fires at 16 locations simultaneously.
Damage was recorded in the Solomyanskyi, Darnytskyi, Holosiivskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, and Podilskyi districts. According to preliminary data, at least five people were killed, and another 29 were injured. During the same attack, Russian forces struck the building housing the “We Are Ukraine” TV channel. Journalists were working there at the time of the strike. At least six employees were injured.
The channel’s executive producer, Yuriy Sugak, stated that the strike hit the newsroom directly. Due to the damage, the channel’s broadcasts were temporarily suspended. Another strike on a residential building in the Darnytskyi district occurred the very next morning. Rescue workers, medical personnel, and other emergency services were on the scene. Efforts to address the aftermath of the attack are ongoing.
As of 1:17 p.m., there were nine casualties in the capital as a result of the morning attacks, the mayor noted.
In Kyiv’s Darnytskyi district, a Russian attack drone struck a 16-story residential building. Information regarding possible casualties is currently being verified.
