In Kyiv, the metro will adjust the Green Line’s schedule during an air raid alert
On September 9 in Kyiv, a new operating algorithm for the Syrets-Pecherska (“green”) metro line was launched on a trial basis during a “yellow” air quality alert. Starting September 10, the new rules are set to take effect on a permanent basis.
Under normal conditions, trains on the Syretsko-Pecherska Line run the full route, connecting the right and left banks of the Dnipro River.
However, if a “red” air threat level is declared, service on the above-ground section will be suspended.
Passengers will need to exit at underground stations and remain there until the danger has passed, using the stations as shelters.
During this period, train service will be organized on two separate sections:
- “Syrets” — “Vydubychi”;
- “Osokorky” – “Chervonyi Khutir.”
Thus, during a “red” threat level, the above-ground section across the Dnipro River will not be used.
If a “yellow” air threat level is declared, trains on the “green” line will be able to continue running without restrictions.
This exact procedure will be tested in a simulation on September 9.
Specialists are checking the procedures and coordination between train operators, dispatchers, and station staff on duty to ensure the safe operation of the metro under various levels of air threat.
According to the Kyiv City State Administration, the new operating procedures for the Syretsko-Pecherska Metro Line will be in effect permanently starting September 10.
Passengers will be informed about the metro’s operating schedule through announcements in the train cars and at stations.

Thus, the main change is that during a “yellow” threat level, the “green” line will operate as usual, while during a “red” threat level, the above-ground section will be closed, and train service will be split between the two underground sections.
