The Kyiv-based bakery Namelaka has suspended operations due to a salmonella outbreak
The Namelaka pastry shop in Kyiv has temporarily suspended operations following a widespread outbreak of illness among its employees.
Symptoms of an intestinal infection were detected in 27 employees. The first case was reported on August 29, and by the evening of September 2, the number of people with symptoms had risen to 27.
Salmonella was detected in two of the first ten employees tested. Results from the other tests are still pending. Additionally, at least three customers reported symptoms of an intestinal infection.
The restaurant stated that it had disposed of all food products, conducted disinfection and a thorough cleaning, and placed the staff in quarantine. The cause of the infection has not yet been determined.
According to test results, the water at the establishment meets safety standards. Namelaka is already in contact with one of the affected visitors and is covering the cost of her treatment.
