A man carrying an arsenal of weapons and fake documents was detained at a checkpoint in Kyiv
In the Podilsky District of Kyiv, law enforcement officers detained a 43-year-old resident of the Kyiv region from whom they seized more than 2,500 rounds of ammunition, an assault rifle, a pistol, gunpowder, a detonator, and fake identification documents during a vehicle inspection and a search of his residence. The court has already ruled to remand him in custody with the possibility of bail, and the suspect faces up to seven years in prison.
A few days ago, police stopped an Infiniti at a checkpoint. Inside the vehicle’s cabin and trunk, investigators found an assault rifle, a pistol, and about 100 rounds of ammunition. The driver was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
During a subsequent search of the suspect’s residence, conducted with the assistance of K-9 units, law enforcement officers seized more than 2,400 rounds of ammunition of various calibers, gunpowder, a detonator, and weapon components. In addition, the man was found to be in possession of forged identification cards identifying him as a volunteer with the Territorial Defense Forces and as a civil servant.
Investigators from the Podil Police Department, under the procedural supervision of the Podil District Prosecutor’s Office, notified the suspect of charges under Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—the acquisition and possession of firearms and ammunition without the permission required by law. The issue of additional charges is currently being considered. For the duration of the investigation, the suspect has been placed in pretrial detention, with the option of posting bail in the amount of nearly 200,000 hryvnias.
Earlier, the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office referred to court the case of three members of an organized group involved in the illegal trade of weapons and ammunition.
In the Sumy region, during operational activities, State Bureau of Investigation (DBR) officers discovered an ammunition cache set up by Russian military personnel near the border. It contained nearly forty anti-tank mines and 10 homemade explosive devices.
In the Chernihiv region, border guards and police officers discovered a cache of ammunition in a non-residential building in one of the villages. Serviceable ammunition will be handed over to the Defense Forces, while unserviceable ammunition will be destroyed.
