Fare prices in Kyiv to rise to 30 UAH: when will the new rates take effect?

Kyiv plans to raise public transportation fares to 30 hryvnias per ride.

This was reported by the Kyiv City State Administration.

The new fares may be introduced on July 15, 2026, following the completion of regulatory procedures and consultations with the public and labor unions.

For passengers who regularly use public transport, a discount system has been introduced based on the number of trips purchased on a transit card. The cost of a single trip will range from 25 to 30 hryvnias: 30 hryvnias for 1–9 trips, and 25 hryvnias per trip when purchasing 50 trips.

Discounts for schoolchildren and students will remain in place: schoolchildren will continue to ride for free during the school year and will receive a 75% discount in the summer. Students will receive a 50% discount on monthly passes.

The Kyiv City State Administration explained that fares have not been revised since 2018, while costs for electricity, fuel, salaries, and infrastructure maintenance have risen significantly.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko accused the central government of political games and refusing to fund critically important work at TPP-5. According to him, the situation regarding the capital’s preparations for winter is becoming critical.

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal held a meeting with Odile Renaud-Basso, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
