Work has begun in Kyiv to remove protective coverings from historical landmarks
Work has begun in the capital to remove protective coverings from historical monuments that had been shielded due to the threat of Russian shelling. The first monument to be unveiled was that of Princess Olga on St. Michael’s Square.
Over the next month, authorities also plan to remove the protective coverings from the monument to Lesya Ukrainka on Lesya Ukrainka Square and the monument to Mykola Lysenko near the National Opera of Ukraine. Afterward, the monuments will be cleaned of debris, and the surrounding areas will be tidied up.
The Kyiv City State Administration noted that the work is being carried out jointly with the Shevchenkivskyi District State Administration with the support of patrons. No funding from the city budget is being used.
At the same time, some Kyiv residents have expressed concern on social media about the safety of this decision amid ongoing Russian attacks. The Department of Culture has not yet commented on these remarks.

St. Nicholas Church in Kyiv has been given a new chance at salvation—during an international conference in Gdańsk, an agreement was signed on technical support for its restoration, which includes the installation of scaffolding and the launch of priority restoration work. The project is estimated to cost approximately 1 million euros, and its implementation will mark the start of a large-scale restoration of the shrine, which has long been in urgent need of assistance.
