In Kyiv, an education department official is to stand trial for overpaying nearly ₴2 million in electricity bills
A former official from the Desnianskyi District Education Department is set to stand trial in Kyiv on charges of embezzling public funds during the procurement of electricity for schools and kindergartens. The amount of the losses totals nearly 1.9 million hryvnias.
This was reported by the Kyiv Police.
According to law enforcement, in January 2023, the 38-year-old public procurement specialist conducted a tender for the supply of electricity to educational institutions in the district and signed a contract with a private company.
Subsequently, according to the investigation, she acted in the supplier’s interests and, over the course of six months, unjustifiably signed about ten additional agreements that raised the price of electricity above market levels.
As a result of these actions, the budget of the Kyiv territorial community suffered losses amounting to nearly 1.9 million hryvnias.
“The suspect unjustifiably signed additional agreements to raise the price above market rates,” law enforcement officials reported.
The woman was notified of her status as a suspect under Part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—abuse of official position for the purpose of obtaining unlawful benefits for others, resulting in serious consequences.
The pre-trial investigation has now been completed, and the indictment has been sent to court. If found guilty, the defendant faces up to six years in prison, along with a ban on holding certain positions or engaging in certain activities for up to three years.

Additionally, under the procedural guidance of the Dnipro District Prosecutor’s Office in Kyiv, an indictment has been sent to court against the head of the Kyivzelenbud municipal enterprise. He is accused of official negligence, which resulted in over 2 million hryvnias being overpaid during the major renovation of the park around Yordanske and Kyrylivske Lakes.
