A soldier has been detained in Kyiv for involvement in an illegal border-crossing scheme
Law enforcement officers in the capital have detained an active-duty soldier for participating in a corruption scheme involving the illegal smuggling of people across Ukraine’s state border.
For $10,000, a 50-year-old resident of Dnipro promised to help his friend, who was of draft age, travel to Moldova by bypassing checkpoints during the period of martial law.
According to investigators, the organizer planned to personally drive his acquaintance to Uman, from where “his people” were to ensure the further crossing of the border. The suspect was caught red-handed during a meeting after the previously agreed-upon sum of money was handed over to him. Law enforcement has now opened a criminal case under Part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which carries a sentence of up to nine years in prison with confiscation of property.
This was reported by the Kyiv Police.
