A tree that had been walled up alive in a small architectural form in Kyiv has been freed – photo

In the Solomyanskyi District of the capital, near the Radio Market, municipal workers removed an illegal retail kiosk that the owners had built directly around a large living tree.

To expand the retail space, the tree was incorporated into the structure. As a result, the tree was deprived of adequate access to sunlight and fresh air for years, which caused damage and significantly weakened it.

It is reported that, for the sake of business, the owners of the small retail kiosk incorporated the tree into the structure’s walls. As a result, the tree was deprived of normal access to light and air for a long time, suffered damage, and was weakened.

The structure, which had been erected without the necessary permits, was dismantled by employees of the capital’s public works services in collaboration with the Kyiv City Department of Territorial Control.

According to local activist Yuriy Andreev, the next steps will involve cleaning up the area and restoring the green space, and those responsible for destroying nature and unlawfully occupying urban space must be held accountable. He also emphasized that ridding the city of illegal small architectural forms is returning sidewalks, lawns, and safe public spaces to Kyiv residents.

Illegal street kiosks have been removed from Independence Square in Kyiv.

In Kyiv, street kiosks were dismantled near the “Dorogozhychi” metro station and on adjacent streets. The area will be beautified in their place: sidewalks will be repaired, and landscaping will be carried out.
