Kyiv bids farewell to the police officers who died in a deadly car accident on Karavaevy Dachi

A farewell ceremony was held at the St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery in Kyiv for two beat officers from the Solomyanskyi Police Department—Lieutenant Denys Budchenko and Senior Lieutenant Dmytro Bondarchuk. 

Both law enforcement officers tragically died while on duty as a result of a fatal traffic accident in the Karavaevy Dachi area. 

• Denis Budchenko (21): Born in the village of Tomashgorod, Rivne Oblast. He recently graduated from the National Academy of Internal Affairs and only began his service as a beat officer this past March. He was the only child in his family. Colleagues remember him as a sincere, friendly, and dedicated young man.

• Dmytro Bondarchuk (23 years old): A native of the city of Boyarka in the Kyiv region. He previously served in the subway police unit, after which he transferred to the position of community police officer. His colleagues remember him as a reliable person, always ready to help. Dmytro is survived by his parents, wife, two young sons, and younger brother.

Relatives, friends, and the leadership and personnel of the Kyiv police came to the capital’s cathedral to pay their respects to the fallen officers. Following a memorial service at the Golden-Domed Monastery, both law enforcement officers were buried in the Kyiv region.

A major traffic accident occurred in Kyiv on June 5, killing four people and injuring three others. The accident occurred around 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Vadym Hetman and Ushynsky Streets near Karavaevy Dachi. Two young police officers were killed in this accident.
