The national flag has been flown at half-mast in Kyiv
Today, April 6, 2026, the country’s largest national flag, located on the grounds of the “National Museum of the History of Ukraine in World War II” Memorial Complex, was temporarily lowered to half-mast.
This decision was made by specialists from the Kyivzelenbud Municipal Enterprise due to an unfavorable weather forecast for the capital.
According to official data from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, strong wind gusts with speeds of 15–20 m/s are expected in Kyiv throughout the day.
Forecasters have issued a Level 1 hazard warning, prompting city authorities to take precautionary measures to preserve the integrity of the flag.
Ukraine’s largest flag will remain at half-mast until weather conditions in the Kyiv region fully stabilize.
Municipal services are constantly monitoring the situation to return the flag to its normal position as soon as the storm warning is lifted.
The scale of the country’s main symbol is impressive: the flagpole, installed on the Pechersk Hills, stands nearly 90 meters tall.
The structure weighs about 32 tons, and the flag itself is enormous—16 by 24 meters.
Due to the large surface area of the fabric, the flag’s windage is extremely high, which places critical loads on the hoisting mechanisms during strong gusts of wind.
“To protect the fabric from damage, the flag will remain at half-mast until weather conditions improve,” explained Kyivzelenbud.
As a reminder, car towing fees in Kyiv will increase starting April 15 due to rising fuel prices.
In Kyiv’s Poznyaki district, a conflict between companies ended in a shooting.
