Video: A school building caught fire in Kyiv's Podilsky District
On the afternoon of August 13, a fire broke out in the building of the former School No. 114 on Kyrylivska Street in Kyiv’s Podil district. The school is currently closed—the building has stood abandoned for about 15 years after being shut down for renovation.
The fire was reported at 11:51 a.m.
The fire broke out on the second floor of the four-story building.
Firefighters managed to contain the fire at 12:22 p.m., limiting it to an area of about 50 square meters. Efforts to extinguish the blaze continued. According to preliminary reports, there were no casualties. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
The former Specialized School No. 114, which offered an in-depth English language program, is located at 87/89 Kyrylivska Street. The building was constructed between 1952 and 1954.

The school was closed due to its dilapidated condition, after which renovation was planned. However, the repairs were never completed, and the building has remained empty for years. Because of its broken windows and state of disrepair, local residents call it the “ghost school.”
Experts are investigating the exact circumstances and causes of the fire.
