A deserter was detained in Kyiv on suspicion of shooting the director of a medical center
In the Svyatoshynsky District of Kyiv, law enforcement officers detained a servicemember who had previously left his military unit without authorization and informed him that he was suspected of attempted murder of the director of a private medical center.
The crime occurred on the morning of September 3, 2026: the assailant lay in wait for the victim near the medical facility and fired at least 23 shots from a firearm at the victim’s head, after which he fled. The center’s director was hospitalized in critical condition.
According to preliminary findings from the investigation, the motive for the crime may have been the death of the suspect’s wife following treatment at this facility. During searches of the suspect’s residence, authorities seized a firearm, clothing, and a laptop containing information about the victim and his children. The issue of imposing a preventive measure in the form of pretrial detention on the suspect is currently being decided, and the penalty under the charged offense provides for up to 15 years of imprisonment.
