A driver was arrested in Kyiv following a fatal traffic accident on Chokolivsky Boulevard

Police have detained the driver of a Mercedes who caused a fatal traffic accident in Kyiv on Friday. Four people were killed in the accident, and several others were injured.

According to law enforcement officials, the incident occurred on Chokolivsky Boulevard. The 49-year-old driver of the Mercedes was traveling at high speed and crashed into an underpass where people were present at the time.

A 12-year-old boy, a 47-year-old woman, and two police officers aged 21 and 23 were killed in the crash.

Three other people—two men and a woman—were also injured in the accident. The victims are currently in the hospital.

The police detained the driver in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. He is currently in custody.

Investigators from the Kyiv Police Department, under the procedural supervision of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office, have opened a criminal case under Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—violation of traffic safety rules resulting in the death of several people.

The issue of notifying the driver of the charges against him is currently being decided.

Earlier, a major traffic accident occurred in Kyiv, resulting in four deaths and three injuries. The accident took place around 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Vadym Hetman and Ushynsky Streets near Karavaevy Dachi.
