Kyiv to Introduce a Targeted Alert System for Gas Stations

In Kyiv, an additional alert system is being developed for gas stations to warn of approaching enemy drones. This will allow the stations to remain open during an alert and suspend service to customers only if an aerial target is directly heading in their direction.

According to Kateryna Pop, spokesperson for the Kyiv City Military Administration, gas stations are subject to the security protocols established by decisions of the capital’s Defense Council. A more targeted response system will allow staff to wrap up their work in advance and switch to a safe mode without having to close the station for the entire duration of a prolonged drone threat.

At the same time, funding for engineering protection, the construction of shelters, and protective structures falls on the private owners of gas station networks. The new measures are being developed following a series of Russian attacks on the capital’s fuel infrastructure.

On September 23, a Ukrnafta gas station in Kyiv was completely destroyed following a Russian attack.

As a reminder, Russia attacked a gas station near Zviahel in the Zhytomyr region.
