Conservation work on damaged structures has begun at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra

Conservation work has already begun on the grounds of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra following the damage caused by Russian attacks.

This was announced by Maksym Ostapenko, director general of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra National Reserve.

According to him, experts are currently identifying the areas that require immediate conservation. Once the rescue efforts are complete, the next phase of work will begin in the central part of the Assumption Cathedral.

This primarily concerns sections of the iconostasis and wall frescoes that have been damaged.

Once the conservation measures are complete, specialists will determine the scope of necessary restoration work and develop a plan for its implementation.

Ostapenko expressed hope that by the end of the year, the interior of the Assumption Cathedral will be restored to proper condition so that religious services can once again be held inside.

At the same time, he emphasized that the full restoration of the complex will take at least several years.

As a reminder, Russia attacked the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, causing a fire.

Prior to that, Russian drones struck the Zaporizhzhia region, resulting in injuries.

As a result of the Russian attack on Kharkiv, five State Emergency Service rescuers were killed.
