Ukrainians were reminded of the rules for staying in shelters with pets
Ukrainians have the right to stay in shelters with their pets during an air raid alert; however, pet owners are required to follow rules that ensure the safety of both their pets and other people.
The State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection noted that this right was officially established following amendments to the rules for the maintenance and operation of protective structures in 2024.
Owners are advised to keep dogs on a leash and to transport cats, small dogs, and other pets in carriers or special containers. It is also advisable to carry a supply of water and food, a veterinary passport (if available), necessary medications, and supplies for cleaning up after your pet. Leaving a pet unattended is prohibited.
Separate requirements apply to dogs listed as potentially dangerous breeds. Specifically, American Pit Bull Terriers, Rottweilers, Dobermans, Caucasian and Central Asian Shepherd Dogs, Bulmastiffs, Tibetan Mastiffs, Argentine and Canarian Mastiffs, American Akitas, and other breeds specified by law must be kept in enclosures only on a short leash and wearing a muzzle.
The agency emphasizes that due to explosions, loud noises, and crowds, even calm animals may behave unpredictably; therefore, compliance with these requirements is essential for the safety of everyone present.

On the night of July 30, during a massive Russian missile attack, Kyiv residents complained that they were unable to reach shelters at metro stations. According to eyewitnesses, some entrances were closed before the air raid siren sounded, and at certain stations, people were turned away due to overcrowding.
In Mykolaiv, plans are being made to organize the new school year with the security situation in mind. Due to constant Russian attacks, classes may be held entirely in shelters, with instruction taking place in two shifts, and the start of classes may be moved to 7:30 a.m.
