Following the murder of a 17-year-old girl in the Kyiv region, two female officials were charged

In the Kyiv region, law enforcement officials have notified the head of the municipal child welfare service and the director of the social services center that they are under investigation following the death of a 17-year-old girl. They are suspected of professional negligence, which, according to investigators, led to the tragedy.

The investigation established that the family had been living in difficult circumstances for a long time. The mother abused alcohol, failed to fulfill her parental responsibilities, and there were repeated reports of domestic violence.

Despite this, according to the prosecutor’s office, the relevant services did not register the children as being in difficult life circumstances and did not take the necessary protective measures. During social support visits, they also failed to respond appropriately to new incidents of domestic violence and other threats.

On June 16, 2026, an acquaintance of the mother fatally stabbed her 17-year-old daughter. Following the tragedy, the man was notified of the charges against him and is currently being held in custody without the right to bail. The mother’s parental rights were terminated, and her two younger children were removed from the family.

According to the investigation, the officials’ inaction is directly linked to the minor’s death.
