Emergency repairs have been completed at the Assumption Cathedral following the Russian attack
At the Assumption Cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, which was damaged during a Russian airstrike, emergency repair work has been completed and the conservation process is now underway. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy and Minister of Culture Tetiana Berezhna during the opening of the Far Caves.
She noted: “The emergency repair work has been completed. After that, we calculated how much money is needed to carry out the conservation work. There is already a damage assessment report for 26 million hryvnias. Once the conservation work is completed, we will prepare the design and cost estimate documentation to restore the cathedral to its original condition.”
In addition, the government official emphasized the importance of completing the conservation work before winter sets in to prevent damage to the roof under the weight of snow and to proceed with restoration work in a timely manner. The repairs are being funded by Ukrainian philanthropists and the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Fund.
