St. Vladimir's Cathedral in Kyiv is switching to the New Julian calendar
St. Vladimir’s Patriarchal Cathedral, which had long remained a center of the Old Style, has announced its transition to the New Julian calendar.
This was reported by the cathedral’s press service.
This historic decision was made by the Cathedral’s Parish Council following the death of Patriarch Filaret and received the official blessing of the Primate of the OCU, Metropolitan Epifaniy.
According to the cathedral’s press service, from now on, the capital’s main cathedral will follow the single calendar used by the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
“We inform all our parishioners that divine services at the cathedral will switch to the New Julian church calendar,” the official statement notes.
The transition process will begin in the coming days, and the first significant services according to the new calendar will be dedicated to the memory of the holy martyr Makarii, Metropolitan of Kyiv.
The cathedral community is preparing to hold an All-Night Vigil on April 30 and a festive Divine Liturgy on May 1.
The cathedral administration emphasizes that starting April 30, 2026, absolutely all religious rites and festive events will take place exclusively according to the New Julian calendar.
This decision aims to fully unify the liturgical practices of the cathedral with those of the rest of the OCU parishes.
