Apple Music has named the most popular artists in the service's history
Apple Music has released a ranking of the most popular artists in the service’s history, with Canadian rapper Drake taking the top spot. Hip-hop and contemporary pop music dominate the top 20, and there are only two women on the list. The ranking is based on the total number of streams on the platform.
The Apple Music streaming service has taken stock of its history and revealed who has been listened to the most since the platform’s launch. Drake emerged as the undisputed leader, consistently maintaining his position as one of the most popular artists in the streaming world and accounting for a significant portion of the service’s music traffic.
Taylor Swift took second place on the list; she, too, has remained among the most popular artists for decades and has amassed billions of streams. The top five also included Future, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, and Bad Bunny, once again highlighting the dominance of hip-hop and Latin music in global streaming.
The list continues with Lil Baby, The Weeknd, Morgan Wallen, Kanye West, Post Malone, and other artists who shape today’s mainstream music scene. The list also includes Travis Scott, Chris Brown, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Durk, Gunna, Rod Wave, Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber, and Eminem, effectively spanning several generations of the pop and rap industries.
The gender imbalance in the ranking is particularly striking: among the twenty most popular artists, there are only two women. In addition to Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande made the list, ranking 12th, making her the only female vocalist in the second half of the top 20.
Apple Music notes that the ranking is based on the total number of streams since the service’s inception, though exact figures for each artist are not disclosed. The list itself tends to reflect general music trends of the streaming era, which is dominated by rap, pop, and global hits that shape the daily listening habits of millions of users.
