Jim Carrey and Ron Howard have teamed up for a sequel to *How the Grinch Stole Christmas*
Renowned American actor Jim Carrey is in official talks to reprise his iconic role in a sequel to the popular holiday film *How the Grinch Stole Christmas*.
Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment have announced the start of development on the sequel, twenty-six years after the release of the original film.
Renowned filmmaker Ron Howard is expected to return to the director’s chair for the project. This was reported on the director’s and the production company’s official social media pages.
This large-scale film project has brought together the original creative team that created the top box office hit of 2000.
Ron Howard will also serve as the film’s executive producer alongside his longtime trusted partner, Brian Grazer.
Official confirmation of the film’s development came in the form of a post featuring an archival photo of Jim Carrey taken directly on set.
The authors left a brief but intriguing comment under the post: “He’s angry… A sequel to *How the Grinch Stole Christmas* is in development.”
The writing team has already begun work on creating a new, exciting story about the green resident of Mount Crumpit.
The screenplay for the upcoming sequel will be written by renowned comedy writers Alec Berg, Jeff Schaffer, and David Mandel.
It’s worth noting that the original film from Universal Pictures was based on the classic children’s book of the same name by the famous author Dr. Seuss.
The film not only grossed a huge amount at the box office but also won the prestigious Oscar for Best Makeup and Hairstyling.
The actor himself had previously expressed some doubts about a possible return due to the extremely complex and exhausting process of daily transformation.
Jim Carrey candidly shared his memories of working on the first film: “The thing is, on shooting days, I was wearing tons of makeup and could barely breathe. It was an incredibly grueling process. I kept thinking about the kids: ‘This is for the kids. This is for the kids. This is for the kids.’
