Sidney Swine Changed the Creator of *Euphoria*'s Decision Regarding Cassie
Sam Levinson, the creator of *Euphoria*, admitted that while working on the third season, he considered cutting the nude scenes featuring Cassie, but Sydney Sweeney flatly rejected the idea and effectively brought the character back to her original concept. The actress pointed out that her character is an OnlyFans model, and avoiding that aspect would distort the logic of the role. As a result, the team kept the explicit scenes but emphasized control, consent, and working with intimacy coordinators on set.
Levinson discussed this in an interview with The New York Times, where he described in detail how creative decisions evolved during the preparation for the new season. According to him, the discussion about the limits of nudity arose as early as the script stage, when he was trying to figure out if it was possible to reimagine Cassie’s storyline without nudity, but he quickly received a clear response from the actress. “It’s funny. When I first wrote the script, I thought, ‘Maybe we can shoot all of this without nudity. Maybe we can find ways to work around certain moments?’” Levinson recalled, explaining his initial doubts.
However, a conversation with Sydney Sweeney proved to be a turning point for him. “She looked at me and said, ‘Are you serious? I’m playing an OnlyFans model. Are you saying you’re going to cut all that out?” And I replied, “Yeah, okay, fair point,”” he recounted their exchange.
Separately, the showrunner also addressed the criticism that accompanied the first seasons of “Euphoria,” particularly regarding the nudity scenes involving high school characters. He emphasized that all actors understand the specifics of their roles in advance and agree to them as early as the casting stage. “You can tell from the script itself what the role requires… we ask if they’re comfortable with it. If they’re comfortable with it, they get the role,” Levinson explained, adding that even after being cast, actors can still decline to participate in such scenes.
According to him, the key principle of his work is safety and psychological comfort on set, because that, in his opinion, is what allows actors to perform as convincingly as possible. “If there’s tension, emotions get blocked. My job is to create the best possible working environment,” he concluded. Levinson also praised Sydney Sweeney’s work, calling her “absolutely fearless” and “extremely professional,” and emphasized that a trusting working relationship had developed between them. This was reported by Variety.
