Guy Nattiv’s film “The Liberation” had its world premiere in Telluride, US
The psychological drama The Liberation by Israeli director Guy Nattiv had its world premiere on September 4 at the Telluride Film Festival in Colorado, US. As The Jerusalem Post reports, the film’s Canadian premiere is scheduled for the Toronto International Film Festival, which will run from September 10 to 20.
A story inspired by the director’s family
The screenplay was written by Guy Nattiv and Noa Berman-Herzberg. The film is based on a true story from the director’s family. At the center of the plot is Rita, a character inspired by the biography of Nattiv’s grandmother, who survived the Holocaust.
The heroine falls under the influence of a charismatic cult leader, leaves her family, and joins an isolated women’s commune. When Rita’s daughters unexpectedly arrive to persuade her to return home, they too find themselves in the cult’s manipulative and emotionally tense environment. Rita must choose between her new life and the family she left behind.

Cast
Rita is played by Carrie Coon, known for the series The White Lotus and The Gilded Age. Her daughters are played by Bella Ramsey and Odessa Young. Lily James portrays the cult leader, while playwright and actor Tracy Letts, Coon’s real-life husband, plays her husband in the film. The film also features Jamie Ray Newman, Nattiv’s wife and his longtime producing partner.
The film was originally titled Harmony. Its inclusion in the Telluride Film Festival program was announced on September 3, shortly before the event opened, as the festival traditionally keeps its lineup secret until the start of the festival.
