The song’s popularity
In the year of its release, Pasoori became the most-streamed Pakistani song on Spotify. It also remains the most-streamed track by Ali Sethi and Shae Gill on the platform, with nearly 405 million plays.
The song inspired numerous covers in Pakistan, India and beyond the subcontinent. It was also included in the soundtrack of the Disney series Ms Marvel, which draws heavily on Pakistani culture: the series’ main character is a Pakistani American.
Coke Studio Africa released a remix of the track featuring elements of Nigerian Afrobeats, in which Ali Sethi collaborated with Marwan Moussa and Ricado Banks. Bollywood also released its own version of the song, performed by Arijit Singh.
