The LUNAR Light Festival took place on the Black Sea coast in Bulgaria
The second LUNAR: Sea of Lights festival took place on Bulgaria’s southern Black Sea coast from August 7 to 10. Seventeen light and digital art installations were showcased in five coastal communities, according to Euronews.
Festival locations included Tsarevo, Varvara, Akhtopol, and Sinemorets. Works by artists from eight countries illuminated buildings, fields, beaches, and the sea. The program ran every evening from 9:00 p.m. to midnight and was free for visitors. The route featured video mapping, interactive installations, lasers, and large-scale light compositions.
In Varvara, MP-STUDIO presented the installation “Harvest of Time,” projecting images onto bales of hay in a meadow above the beach. Latvian artists Those Guys Lighting showcased their work “Divine Geometry” and other installations in the same space.

In Akhtopol, the “Endless Currents” projection utilized the shoreline and the shifting surface of the sea: waves and tides became part of the moving image. In Tsarevo, the video mapping installation “Gifts of the Sea” was projected onto the facade of the Georgy Kondolov Community Center, and the light installation “Moon”—the festival’s symbol—was set up near the “Ship” fountain.
In Sinemortsi, Slovak artist sedemminut presented the installation “For Peace” in a meadow overlooking the beach. It consisted of luminous human figures that appeared to be running through the darkness. The organizers noted that the festival aims to connect people with nature and spark visitors’ interest in contemporary art. The project builds on the LUNAR festival in Sofia, which has attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors since its launch in 2022.
