Netflix will release the Korean thriller "The Mousetrap" on August 28
On August 28, Netflix will premiere the Korean thriller series *Mousetrap*, starring Ryu Jun-yeol in the lead role. The project is based on a Korean folk tale and the popular webtoon *The Rat Trap*, according to the *Korea Herald*.
According to the folklore, which was used to warn children against carelessly discarding their nail clippings, a mouse that eats a person’s nails can turn into an exact copy of that person. In the series, this legend is expanded into a thriller about the reclusive writer Moon Jae. His life changes after the appearance of a mysterious doppelganger who assumes his identity and, in particular, ruins his financial affairs.
Ryu Jun-yeol played two roles: Moon Jae and the Mouse—a creature that takes on his likeness. The actor explained at a press conference in Seoul that the creators sought to distinguish between the outwardly identical characters through their personalities, facial expressions, and other subtle details, rather than through dramatic physical transformations.

According to Ryu, the webtoon explores not only a sci-fi theme but also questions of identity: how a person defines and affirms their own identity, and whether their perceptions of themselves and others correspond to reality.
The series also stars Sol Kyung-gu, known for his roles in *Silmido* and *The Merciless*. He plays the loan shark Noh Ja, who is determined to collect a long-overdue debt from Moon Jae. The actor noted that there are no heroes with extraordinary abilities in the story; rather, the characters themselves drive the plot forward in their search for the truth.
