Nigerian series Ordinary People receives 6 out of 10 in Premium Times Nigeria review
The Nigerian eight-episode action thriller Ordinary People, released on Netflix on September 4, 2026, received 6 out of 10 in a Premium Times Nigeria review. The series, directed by Moses Inwang, tells the story of residents of the affluent Mirage Estate residential complex in Lagos, whose respectable lives conceal crimes, betrayals and dangerous secrets.
The plot in Mirage Estate
The events begin in 2017 with a bloody attack on the estate of a Niger Delta crime boss nicknamed Tornado, played by Ramsey Nouah. Several years later, Dare Laguda, portrayed by Shawn Faqua, arrives at Mirage Estate. He presents himself as an employee of a fintech company and an inquisitive new neighbor, but secretly watches the complex's residents and gathers information about them.
Tornado and his wife, played by Adunni Ade, have settled in the complex as bakery owners while also seeking to settle old scores. Other characters include the married undercover intelligence officers Tolu and Margaret, played by Chidi Mokeme and Michelle Dede, as well as comedian Perry and his wife Audrey, portrayed by Lasisi Elenu and Uche Montana.

Criticism of the screenplay
According to the reviewer, the series offers a clear idea about the difference between people's public image and their hidden sides. Mirage Estate is presented as a model of society where outward prosperity coexists with violence, corruption, fraud and domestic abuse.
At the same time, the review notes that the creators overloaded the plot with numerous storylines: Tornado's revenge, domestic abuse, fraud, mental health issues, an illegal abortion and the undercover intelligence operation. According to the publication, new secrets and plot twists emerge faster than viewers can become emotionally invested in the preceding stories.
The reviewer praised the cast, which also includes Sharon Ooja and Jackie Appiah, but noted that the screenplay does not always give the characters sufficient depth. The series was filmed over three years in Lagos, Bayelsa and Berlin.
