Tallinn to showcase more than 100 David Bowie photographs by Masayoshi Sukita

Starting October 9, the Poco art museum in Tallinn, Estonia, will present a solo exhibition by Japanese photographer Masayoshi Sukita dedicated to David Bowie. This will be the first exhibition of Sukita's works in Estonia, ERR News reports.

More than one hundred photographs

The exhibition “Bowie x Sukita x Poco” will feature more than 100 photographs highlighting the 40-year creative collaboration between Bowie and Sukita. The project will arrive in Tallinn after its previous European stop in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Poco founder Linnar Viik said that “Bowie x Sukita” has already been exhibited at some of the world's largest museums and cultural institutions. In his view, the exhibition's appearance in Tallinn confirms the international standing of the Poco museum.

The meeting of Bowie and Sukita

Sukita did not speak English, and Bowie did not speak Japanese. However, after seeing a poster featuring the musician on a London street in 1972, the photographer decided to photograph him.

Later, Sukita accompanied Bowie in various cities around the world: he photographed him at press conferences in Tokyo, during studio sessions in Berlin, on the streets of Kyoto, and on concert stages in New York. The exhibition will run until April 25, 2027.
