Director and stage director Oleg Pavlyuchenkov has passed away

On May 23, it was announced that Ukrainian director and cinematographer Oleg Pavlyuchenkov had died. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed.

This was reported by the National Union of Cinematographers of Ukraine.

“Sad news… Oleg Pavlyuchenkov—cinematographer, director, producer, photographer, philosopher, and mathematician—has passed away. Everyone who knew Oleg, everyone who had the opportunity to interact with him, remembers him as a person whom God endowed with many talents. Both professional and personal…” – reported the National Union of Cinematographers of Ukraine.

Violinist Bohdana Pivnenko recalled Pavlyuchenkov’s experience in film restoration for the Dovzhenko Film Studio, noting that his body of work includes 46 films.

“A fanatically devoted advocate of the ideas of the Renaissance and the Enlightenment, a champion of pure art… who has recorded terabytes of contemporary Ukrainian music and performances!!!! He restored 46 films for the Dovzhenko Film Studio!! A Facebook page wouldn’t be enough to list everything he’s done. At his own expense… with high quality and professionalism,” the violinist emphasized.

Cultural scholar Ivan Kozlenko reported that Oleg Pavlyuchenkov led the first restoration of Ukrainian film classics, which consisted mainly of avant-garde films from the 1920s.

He added that thanks to Pavlyuchenkov, these films were returned to Ukrainian screens as part of the Dovzhenko Center’s projects, notably at the “Silent Nights” archival film festival.

“He knew Ukrainian cinema intimately and deeply appreciated it, studied its palette and pulse, was deeply concerned about the fate of cultural heritage, and lamented his powerlessness in the face of its destruction—by human hands, not by time,” wrote the cultural scholar.

As a reminder, the People’s Artist, who was the voice of Ukrainian television for 25 years, has passed away.

It has been announced where and when Stepan Kubiv will be buried.

On the morning of May 18, Ukrainian People’s Deputy Stepan Kubiv died suddenly. The circumstances of his death have not yet been clarified, and details of the incident are being investigated.
