Gilmore Girls sequel brings viewers back to Stars Hollow — Cyprus Mail

In Cyprus, Cyprus Mail published a review of Netflix’s four-episode sequel, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, which returns to the story of the “Gilmore Girls.” The events unfold around ten years after the finale of the original series and focus on Lorelai, Rory and Emily Gilmore.

A story over the course of a year

Each of the four episodes is dedicated to one season of the year. The sequel takes viewers back to Stars Hollow, Luke’s diner and the fast-paced dialogue characteristic of the series.

At the center of the plot are Lorelai’s life and her Dragonfly Inn hotel, the heroine’s difficult relationship with her mother, as well as Rory’s journalistic work, which takes her around the world on business trips. According to the review’s author, the series also returns to questions left after the finale of the original story.

Richard Gilmore is absent from the sequel because Edward Herrmann, who played the role, died before filming began.

Assessment of the sequel

The review’s author believes that character development sometimes appears uneven. In particular, in her opinion, adult Rory’s decisions differ from the image of the sensitive and principled teenager in the original series.

The reviewer also notes that because of the absence of Sookie, played by Melissa McCarthy, and her husband, the story has become less lively. At the same time, in her view, the sequel retains the autumnal atmosphere associated with “Gilmore Girls.”
