In Estonia, agricultural museum renamed MUHK — ERR News
In Ülenurme in Estonia’s Tartu County, the Estonian Agricultural Museum will operate under a new name from Friday — Maaelu uudishimukeskus, or the Rural Life Curiosity Centre (MUHK). The renaming is linked to the expansion of the institution’s scope: alongside the history of rural life and agriculture, it will pay more attention to the present and the future.
A new approach to rural history
As ERR News reports, the museum will continue to preserve collections, exhibits, agricultural machinery, stories and skills related to rural Estonia. At the same time, the way rural life is presented will change, combining historical materials with current issues and ideas about the future.
Director of the Eesti Maaelumuuseumid foundation Kadri Valner said that the museum has long not focused exclusively on the past. According to her, the new exhibition covers everyday topics of rural life, food security and the future of food.

An exhibition about soil, robots and food
On Friday, MUHK will open a permanent exhibition covering more than 600 square meters, titled “Why Do I Need Soil?! From Seed to Harvest, From Harrow to Robot.” Its themes include soil, agriculture and food production, as well as satellites, robots, artificial intelligence and the future of food.
The name and structure of the Eesti Maaelumuuseumid foundation remain unchanged. It will continue to manage three sites: MUHK in Ülenurme, the K. R. Jakobson Farm Museum in Kurgja, and the horse breeding farm in Tori.
