A Russian man stole a song by the popular Ukrainian singer Drevo
The team behind Ukrainian artist Drevo has succeeded in having a track by Russian singer R. Riccardo blocked on major streaming services.
The reason was blatant plagiarism of the song “Enkarapista,” which became one of the biggest Ukrainian hits of 2025.
The conflict began in late March 2026, when the artist’s fans noticed a video by the Russian singer on TikTok featuring an identical musical backing track.
The situation escalated when the Russian label officially released the track, completely copying the melody from the first note to the last.
Producer Mykhailo Shiyan noted that this case was legally complex due to the nature of the infringement. The Russians did not steal a finished recording, but rather the author’s sequence of notes, attempting to pass it off as their own arrangement and lyrics.
To protect their rights, the Drevo team reached out to international distributors and the administrations of music platforms.
The difficulty lay in the fact that automated algorithms do not always detect melody plagiarism as quickly as they do the use of someone else’s original recording.
