Romanian sensation Alexandra Căpitănescu will perform in the Eurovision semifinals
Romanian singer Alexandra Căpitănescu will take the stage today in the second Eurovision semifinal. The artist rose to fame after winning “The Voice of Romania” in 2023 and is now considered one of the country’s most promising young performers, according to the official Eurovision website.
Fans have come to love Alexandra for her sincere performances, powerful vocals, and deeply emotional delivery. At the same time, the singer herself surprises everyone by pursuing a serious academic path alongside her musical career. After winning “The Voice of Romania,” Alexandra quickly burst onto the Romanian music scene. Within a year, she released her debut EP, “Căpitnu,” and several solo singles. The artist writes most of her songs together with musicians from her own band and Romanian composers.
Her music is a blend of modern pop, indie, and emotional ballads. Critics often note that Alexandra doesn’t strive for “perfect” performances but focuses on raw emotion and honesty with her audience.
Following her success on the TV show, the singer began actively touring Romania. She has performed at major festivals, including Electric Castle—one of the country’s most famous music festivals.
But Alexandra’s story is also interesting because music isn’t her only path in life. The singer is pursuing a master’s degree in the physics department in Bucharest. She previously earned a bachelor’s degree and plans to work as a medical physicist. “Science teaches me discipline, and music teaches me freedom,” Alexandra said in an interview.
The artist has admitted more than once that she literally has to juggle rehearsals and her studies. Due to her busy schedule, she often prepared for exams right in the dressing rooms or while on tour. There haven’t been any major scandals surrounding the singer yet, but after her victory on “The Voice,” debates arose on social media. Some viewers considered her the producers’ favorite, while others, on the contrary, said she won thanks to her live performances and strong vocals.
Her unusual style was also a hot topic of discussion. Alexandra often takes the stage without flashy stage outfits or elaborate choreography, which leads people to compare her to “quiet” European artists who focus primarily on the music. The singer herself takes the criticism in stride. “I don’t want to be louder than my music,” Alexandra said.
Today, Alexandra Căpitănescu will perform third in the second Eurovision semifinal. A total of 15 contestants will take the stage to compete for a spot in the contest’s grand final.
