British actor Anthony Head, known to audiences for his roles in the TV series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Ted Lasso,” has died at the age of 72 due to complications from pneumonia. His family announced his death, noting that the actor passed away surrounded by loved ones.

The world of film and television has lost British actor Anthony Head, who for decades remained a recognizable face in popular TV series and films, and whose roles became part of the television culture of different generations of viewers.

According to Anthony Head’s daughters, he died from complications caused by pneumonia and was surrounded by loved ones in his final moments. “It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our remarkable father. It has been and always will be an honor and a privilege for us to be his daughters and to see firsthand the impact he and his work have had on so many people,” reads the statement from his daughters, Emily and Daisy Ged.

Anthony Head was born on February 20, 1954, in London and began his career in musical theater in the 1970s, gradually transitioning to television and theater, where he achieved his first notable successes. The actor gained widespread popularity for his role as Rupert Giles in the cult series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” where he played the protagonist’s mentor and became one of the show’s key characters.

He subsequently appeared in many well-known projects, including “Little Britain,” where he played one of his most recognizable roles, the film “The Iron Lady” with Meryl Streep, as well as the series “Conviction,” where he played Sir Walter Elliot. Anthony Head became familiar to a new generation of viewers through his role as Rupert Mannon in the Apple TV series “Ted Lasso,” where he played the ex-husband of the protagonist Rebecca Welton, adding a distinctive dramatic depth to the story.

His most recent on-screen appearance was in the 2022 series “Bridgerton,” where he appeared in one of the episodes of the second season. The actor’s family also includes other well-known creative figures: his daughters Emily and Daisy have chosen acting careers, and his brother Murray Ged has also appeared in films, notably in “Bloody Sunday” and the musical “Chess.”

Earlier, the family of actor Nicholas Brandon, another star of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” announced his death, marking yet another loss for the cast of the cult series, which left a significant mark on global television history. The BBC reported the actor’s death, citing his family.
