Melting snow in Turkey has revealed mysterious ruins

In central Turkey, ancient ruins were discovered on Mount Lifos after the snow melted; they may be the remains of a large religious complex or a fortified settlement.

The ruins are located near the summit of Mount Lifos in the province of Kayseri at an altitude of over 2,500 meters. Drone footage revealed a fortified area of approximately 74,000 square meters with the remains of walls and other structures.

Historian Halit Erkiletlioğlu suggested that the complex may have been an ancient sanctuary dedicated to Zeus. According to him, old descriptions mention walls, towers, burial structures, and reservoirs in this area. The main defensive wall, according to preliminary estimates, may have reached four meters in height.

Researchers note that constructing such a large-scale structure at a significant altitude required substantial resources and careful planning. The discovered traces of reservoirs also indicate a possible long-term human presence in this location.

At the same time, scientists have not yet ruled out other possibilities. The complex may have served not only as a religious center but also as a strategic defensive outpost controlling important mountain routes. In ancient times, religious and military functions were often combined in a single structure.

Only comprehensive archaeological research will be able to definitively determine the purpose and age of the ruins. For now, experts are calling the find one of the region’s most mysterious historical sites.
