The Beach Boys cancel four September concerts in the US — Rolling Stone
The Beach Boys canceled four concerts scheduled for September 24–27 in the United States, one day before resuming their tour. The shows were to take place in West Springfield, Massachusetts; Quakertown, Pennsylvania; and twice in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
As Rolling Stone reports, no reason was given for the cancellation of all four shows. The Univest Performance Center venue in Quakertown said the cancellation was due to circumstances beyond its control. The Alabama Theater in North Myrtle Beach used the same wording.
Break in the tour
The group had not performed for about two months after postponing more than 30 dates of the Pet Sounds 60 anniversary tour, dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the album Pet Sounds. In early June, a number of concerts were postponed due to an unspecified illness of frontman Mike Love.

The tour resumed on June 14 with a concert in Chelsea, United Kingdom, and continued until a July 18 performance in Valdosta, Georgia. At the end of July, the band canceled 30 concerts scheduled through the end of September. At the time, Love said that The Beach Boys were taking a short break to recuperate and planned to return to the stage in September.
Next scheduled date
At the time of publication, The Beach Boys' next listed concert was a performance on October 9 at Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington, Illinois. A representative for the band did not respond to Rolling Stone's request for comment on the reasons for the new cancellation.
This year, The Beach Boys have performed more than 40 concerts as part of the Pet Sounds 60 tour. Longtime band member Bruce Johnston left the group at the beginning of the year. Meanwhile, Al Jardine performs with musicians from Brian Wilson's former touring lineup under the name Pet Sounds Band.
