The Dark Cloak is returning to the screen in a new Disney series

The Disney+ streaming service has officially announced the launch of a new series, *Darkwing Duck*, centered on the superhero duck. 

According to the plot, Darkwing Duck has been living for 35 years in a nightmarish alternate world where no one knows about his heroic past. Everything changes with the arrival of a rebellious teenager named Ducky, who knows the superhero’s story and encourages the former hero to return to the fray.

Together, they’ll face off against old enemies Negadak and Megavolt. In addition, Darkwing Duck will reunite with his former allies Launchpad, Gosaline, and Morgana to save the entire universe.

The lead roles will be played by Mark Hamill (“Batman: The Animated Series”) as Drake Mallard/Dark Cape, Seth Rogen (“The Muppet Show”) as Launchpad McQuack, Lizzie Kaplan (“Party Down”) as Gosaline Mallard, Lilima (“Inside Out 2”) as Ducky, as well as Dan Stevens, Tiffany Shepis, Katherine Newton, Theo Briones, Tyler Dean Flores, Katie Rich, and Nat Faxon.

The show’s creators have noted that they aim to place the Dark Cloak character alongside iconic heroes — Robin Hood, Zorro, and Sherlock Holmes — characters whose stories have been reimagined time and again by various authors across different media.

Sean Tretta (“Star Trek: Picard”) and Borja Peña Gorostegui (“Lost & Crowned”) serve as executive producers on the project. The production team is led by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Alex McAtee, and Gabby Grantham. Tad Stones, the creator of the original series, served as a consultant on the new project.

The original *The Dark Cape*, produced by Disney Television Animation, premiered in 1991 and aired from 1996 to 1997. In total, “The Dark Cape” consists of 91 episodes. The series was nominated for an Emmy Award, and the character himself appeared in video games for the NES and Game Boy in the early 1990s, in the Disney Afternoon comics, and later in the revamped animated series *DuckTales*.
