A statue of Pharaoh Ramses II has been discovered in the Nile Delta

Archaeologists in Egypt have discovered a fragment of an ancient statue of Pharaoh Ramses II, whom some researchers associate with the ruler mentioned in the biblical story of the prophet Moses.

This was reported by the Daily Mail.

The discovery was made in Tel Faroun in the eastern part of the Nile Delta. The discovered fragment includes the legs and base of the statue, is about 2 meters tall, and weighs approximately 5–6 tons.

The sculpture dates to the New Kingdom period (around 1550–1070 BCE). Despite the damage, researchers were able to identify it as part of a monument from the reign of Ramses II.

According to preliminary data, the statue may have been transported to Tel Faroun from the ancient city of Pi-Ramses—the capital built by this pharaoh. This city is also mentioned in the Bible as a place associated with the story of the Exodus of the Jews from Egypt.

Although the pharaoh’s name is not explicitly mentioned in the Holy Scriptures, historical and geographical coincidences make Ramses II one of the leading candidates for this role.

Scientists believe that the discovered fragment may have been part of a large sculptural composition in which the pharaoh was depicted alongside deities. Further research should help more accurately determine the artifact’s origin and the circumstances of its relocation.

Last November, archaeologists made a sensational discovery in the necropolis of the ancient Egyptian city of Asyut. A secret chamber was discovered in the tomb of the powerful official Jefhahepi I, where his daughter, the priestess Idi, was buried.

We previously reported that during excavations in Kerman Province in southeastern Iran, archaeologists discovered a case for dark red lipstick dating back to the Bronze Age.
