Chinese actor You Benchang has died in Beijing, China. He was 93. According to ECNS, he died on Wednesday morning as a result of illness.

You Benchang was born in 1933. He was a recognized performing arts figure and a first-class actor at the National Theatre of China. He worked in the performing arts for more than 70 years, devoting a significant part of his career to theatre. During this time, the actor created many characters that became popular with audiences.

You Benchang became best known for playing the legendary Buddhist monk Ji Gong in the 1985 television series “Ji Gong.” The final television drama of his career was the series Blossoms Shanghai. In it, the actor played the elderly and wise mentor Ye Shu; his performance in the Shanghai dialect once again drew the attention of audiences.

In April 2024, You Benchang appeared on the opening red carpet of the 14th Beijing International Film Festival.
