Nicosia to host multilingual short film festival — Cyprus Mail
From September 22 to 24, Nicosia, Cyprus, will host the Languages on Screen – Europe Speaks Cinema short film festival. The programme includes 15 films from ten countries, which will be screened at three venues across the city to mark the European Day of Languages, Cyprus Mail reports.
The series of free screenings is organised by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Translation, the European Commission Representation in Cyprus, the Centre for Social Innovation and Film Festival on Diversity. The films will be screened with English subtitles.
Opening at EU House
The first evening will begin on September 22 at 18:30 at EU House on Byron Avenue in Nicosia. Viewers will see four short films from Spain, France, Italy and Ireland: Céntrico by director Luso Martínez, Les Mystérieuses aventures de Claude Conseil by directors Marie-Lola Terver and Paul Jousselin, Tempi Supplementari by director Matteo Memè, and Yu Ming Is Ainm Dom by director Daniel O’Hara. Admission is free, but registration is required for this screening.

Open-air screenings
On September 23 at 19:00, the open-air amphitheatre at Eleftheria Square will screen Education by director Emi Buchwald, Purgatory by director Bianca Bertini, Astro TV by director Magdaleena Jakkila, Incidentally by director Konstantinos Oikonomou and Montsouris by director Guil Sela. The films represent Poland, Italy, Finland, Greece and France.
The closing programme will take place on September 24 at 19:00 at Gardens of the Future. It includes 9BED(s) by director Ismini Daskaroli, Sky Like Silk. Full of Oranges by director Betina Kuntzsch, Carpinchos by director Alfredo Soderguit, Pană de vulpe by director Vlad Popa, My Guide by director Barnabás Tóth and Tumbas vecinas by director José Antonio Gutiérrez Bustos. Works from Greece, Germany, France, Romania, Hungary and Spain will be screened on the final evening.
