South Korea presents Jeong Gi’s “Autumn Landscape”
In South Korea, a series about the treasures of the National Museum of Korea featured the scroll “Autumn Landscape” by artist Jeong Gi, who lived from 1825 to 1854. As reported by The Korea Herald, the work dates to the Joseon period and measures 88 by 35.5 centimeters. It is a vertical scroll painting.
A landscape with a bridge and pine trees
The painting depicts a small house and pine trees beyond a bridge spanning a stream. The distant view conveys a sense of solitude, silence and restrained simplicity. The listed materials for the work are silk fabric and hemp canvas.

The influence of Kim Jeong-hui
Jeong Gi was an artist and representative of literati art known for his landscape works. He was significantly influenced by Kim Jeong-hui, also known by the literary pseudonym Chusa. Kim Jeong-hui was an outstanding calligrapher and painter of the late Joseon period.
Inscription on the scroll
The poetic inscription in the upper-right corner of the scroll comes from the painting “Lofty Scholars in Pine Valleys.” Its author was Wen Zhengming, a Chinese calligrapher and painter of the Ming dynasty who lived from 1470 to 1559.
