VIDEO: The famous stork couple, Hrytsyk and Odarka, have abandoned their chicks
A new phase in the chicks’ development has begun at the famous stork nest in the Poltava region. The storks, Hrytsyk and Odarka, are increasingly leaving their chicks on their own while they go in search of food.
Viewers of the online broadcast from the nest have noticed this.
As researcher Iryna Sarazhynska explained, this behavior is natural and indicates that the chicks have grown and need more food.
According to her, from now on, Hrytsyk and Odarka will more often fly out for food at the same time, whereas previously they mostly took turns and one of the parents remained with the chicks.
On June 4, the chicks were left alone in the nest twice. The first time, Hrytsyk returned within a minute with hay, and the second time, the chicks were without their parents for nearly 16 minutes until Odarka flew back to the nest.
The researcher emphasizes that this behavior is a normal stage in the development of young storks and does not indicate that the parents have abandoned their offspring.
