Trailer released for Judd Apatow’s documentary about Norm Macdonald — Rolling Stone

A trailer has been released for the documentary Norm: The Tale of Norm Macdonald about the life and career of the late comedian Norm Macdonald. The film was directed by Judd Apatow and is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on October 16.

Archival materials about Macdonald

The trailer includes clips of Macdonald’s jokes, excerpts from his stand-up performances, film appearances, and the story of his dismissal from Saturday Night Live, where he hosted the Weekend Update segment. The video also features footage of the comedian’s conversations with Sarah Silverman, Jim Carrey, Adam Sandler, and David Letterman.

As Rolling Stone reports, the film was edited without traditional retrospective interviews with people recalling its subject. According to Netflix, Apatow used archival materials, personal photographs, and rare home videos provided by Macdonald’s friends and fans so that the comedian could tell his own story in his own voice.
