Musical theater star Søren Torpegaard Lund will perform in the Eurovision semifinals

Musical theater star Søren Torpegaard Lund will perform in the Eurovision semifinals

Søren Torpegaard Lund will represent Denmark in the second Eurovision semi-final today. He came to the song contest already well-known in the Danish theater world as a singer, actor, and dancer, according to the official Eurovision website.

For many years, Søren played leading roles in major musicals, but has now decided to focus on his own music. The artist says the time has come to speak from the stage not with someone else’s words, but with his own. Søren Torpegaard Lund was born and raised in the small Danish town of Gudme. His love for the stage began in childhood—by the age of ten, he already knew he wanted to dedicate his life to musical theater.

At 17, Søren enrolled in the Danish National School of Performing Arts and became the youngest student in the school’s history. “I didn’t even realize back then what a huge opportunity that was,” the artist recalled.

After graduation, he quickly became one of the most prominent young performers in Danish musicals. Søren played Tony in West Side Story, Angel in Kinky Boots, and Romeo in Romeo & Juliet. It was the musical theater stage that helped him earn a reputation as an artist who can combine strong vocals, emotion, and acting.

In recent years, Søren has begun working more on his own songs. He has gradually transitioned from theater to contemporary pop music and writing his own material.

The artist says his music has become much more personal: “In theater, you tell someone else’s story. Now I want to tell my own,” he explained. There have been almost no major scandals surrounding Søren Torpegaard Lund. In Denmark, he has a reputation as a very professional and calm artist.

However, after the announcement of his participation in Eurovision, debates broke out on social media between fans of musicals and pop music. Some viewers doubted whether a theater artist could look natural on the contest’s big pop stage. Others, on the contrary, consider his stage experience and ability to work with emotions to be his main strengths.

Fans are also actively discussing his performance style—more dramatic and “cinematic” than that of many contemporary pop artists. Critics also note that Søren pays close attention to vocals and live sound. Due to his theatrical background, he focuses heavily on performance technique. In Denmark, the artist is also frequently invited to appear on TV and music shows, and his fanbase continues to grow following his transition to pop music.

Today, Søren Torpegaard Lund will perform tenth in the second Eurovision semi-final. A total of 15 contestants will take the stage to compete for a spot in the contest’s grand final.
