Fire at Tungatinah power station in Tasmania deemed accidental
The fire that destroyed a significant part of the Tungatinah power station in Tasmania’s Central Highlands, Australia, last week has been deemed accidental. This was reported by ABC News, citing the Tasmania Fire Service.

Tasmania Fire Service Deputy Chief Officer Matt Lowe said investigators had completed their examination of the fire scene and determined that it was accidental. According to preliminary findings, the fire began on the floor of the assembly workshop, away from the power station’s main turbines.
Investigators also identified several possible ignition sources. They will be further examined over the coming weeks and months, while the investigation will continue for several more months.

Further work at the site
According to Lowe, investigators’ work was complicated by the large scale of the site, significant structural damage caused by the fire, and adverse weather conditions in the area last week. During the examination, firefighters worked with Hydro Tasmania, Tasmania Police, and other services.
The site was handed over to Hydro Tasmania the previous day. Assessments and fire recovery work will continue at the power station in the coming days.
