Power outages in Kyiv and seven regions following a massive attack by Russia

Power outages have occurred in Kyiv due to Russia’s massive attack on energy infrastructure facilities. Power disruptions have also been reported in the Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Cherkasy regions. Energy companies are working to address the consequences of the attacks.

According to the Ministry of Energy, no power restrictions are currently expected. However, energy officials warn that the situation in the power grid may change, so it is advisable to monitor the latest information on the websites of your regional power companies.

At the same time, electricity consumption in the country has increased—as of 9:30 a.m., it was 8.2% higher than yesterday morning. This is due to cloudy weather and rain in some regions, which is causing residential solar power plants to operate inefficiently.

Consumers are asked to help the power grid by:

  • shift active use of appliances to daytime hours—from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (the period when industrial solar power plants operate most efficiently);
  • use electricity sparingly in the evening—from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM (in particular, do not turn on several high-power appliances at the same time).

In the capital, shelling damaged a production site and infrastructure of a DTEK energy company. Two power workers were injured and hospitalized.

Due to the attack, 140,000 households in the Svyatoshynskyi, Obolonskyi, and Shevchenkivskyi districts were left without power.

As of this morning, power workers have already managed to restore critical infrastructure and restore power to 110,000 households.

Work to restore power to the remaining 30,000 customers is ongoing.

In addition to power grids, the enemy attacked oil and gas industry facilities. Damage to infrastructure was also reported there. No employees of oil and gas companies were injured, and emergency services are on site.

Emergency repair work is underway around the clock at all damaged facilities across the country, where the security situation permits.

This was reported by the Ministry of Energy, Ukrenergo, and DTEK.
