Eli Lilly combination delivered 23.3% weight loss — STAT News

A combination of Zepbound and Eli Lilly’s investigational drug candidate eloralintide delivered a 23.3% reduction in body weight after 48 weeks in a mid-stage study among participants who continued treatment. STAT News reports.

Combination therapy results

The trial involved people with obesity and type 2 diabetes. The company tested different combinations of its GLP-1 drug Zepbound with eloralintide, a candidate that targets the hormone amylin.

In the group that received the highest dose of the combination and remained on treatment, body weight loss amounted to 23.3%. Participants who took Zepbound alone lost 14.8% of their weight, while those who received only the highest dose of eloralintide lost 11.1%.

Tolerability questions

The results were presented on Wednesday at the annual meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes. STAT News notes that people with diabetes typically lose less weight during drug treatment than people without the condition.

At the same time, high therapy discontinuation rates may raise questions about its tolerability, the publication notes.
