Vera Therapeutics reports stabilization of kidney function in Phase III Trutakna trial

Vera Therapeutics reported that its drug Trutakna stabilized kidney function and reduced the risk of death and other complications related to kidney disease in patients with IgA nephropathy. The data are based on the final two-year results of a Phase III clinical trial, STAT News reports.

Study results

IgA nephropathy, or IgAN, is a chronic autoimmune kidney disease. It is associated with the accumulation of immune antibodies in the kidneys, which leads to a gradual loss of kidney function.

The disease can potentially cause kidney failure, requiring patients to undergo dialysis. Vera Therapeutics said the final study results confirmed the stabilization of kidney function in patients who received Trutakna.

Regulatory plans

In July, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration granted Trutakna accelerated approval for the treatment of IgA nephropathy. After receiving the final study data, Vera Therapeutics plans to apply to the FDA for full approval of the drug in the fourth quarter.
